Traditional upper endoscopy and colonoscopy is able to detect most conditions of the digestive tract. Unfortunately they cannot examine the small intestine.
But now the capsule endoscopy  is available for the first time in Kenya. The patient swallows a tiny disposable camera which takes pictures of the intestines. This cutting edge medical device is able to examine the entire small intestine. Patients who have stool occult blood positive or bloody stool without a clear cause on endoscopy may have a small intestine problem. Persistent abdominal pain or digestive problems may also be present.  We can now accurately make the diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment.
